Confirmed Casualties and Ongoing Search

Initially, officials confirmed the deaths of two men and one woman—ages 35 and 55 for the men and women, respectively. Unfortunately, a third woman, who was resuscitated and airlifted to a hospital, succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Whether any of the victims were German nationals is currently unclear.

Rescue teams worked late into the night searching for the missing person, but efforts were unsuccessful. The operation involved coast guard crews, a helicopter, and personnel from the fire department, medical services, and police.

Warnings Ignored

Eyewitness accounts suggest that some individuals managed to get out of the water on their own. State broadcaster RTVE cautioned that the Canary Islands' authorities had issued warnings about hazardous waves just days prior to this incident. Popular among tourists, these natural pools can become treacherous during rough seas, transforming into deadly traps as strong waves can drag unsuspecting individuals into open waters. Just a few days earlier, Tenerife encountered similar perilous conditions, resulting in three fatalities and 15 injuries during another incident. Once again, the island faces the aftermath of a devastating event.
